FEDERAL COURT RULES TRUMP CANNOT FIRE LISA COOK

In a setback for President Donald Trump, a federal appeals court has ruled 2-1 that he cannot remove Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook from her position. The decision, handed down Monday, ensures Cook’s continued presence at the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, where an interest rate cut is anticipated. Trump had announced in August his intention to fire Cook, alleging mortgage fraud, charges she has denied while arguing that the president lacks the authority to dismiss her.
