Uganda has initiated a trial for a vaccine targeting the Sudan strain of the Ebola virus after an outbreak that resulted in one death and two infections. The first casualty was a 32-year-old male nurse who passed away last week. On Monday, the trial began with the first participant, who is under isolation, receiving a dose of the vaccine developed by the International Aids Vaccine Initiative, a global non- profit organization.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the ongoing mpox outbreak in parts of Africa a public health emergency of international concern, marking a critical escalation in the global response to the highly contagious disease. Formerly known as monkeypox, mpox has claimed at least 450 lives during an initial outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the situation is worsening as a new, more deadly variant spreads across central and east Africa.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed a fresh Ebola outbreak in its capital, Kampala, following the death of a 32-year-old nurse. The victim, who exhibited symptoms such as high fever, chest pain, and bleeding, succumbed to multi-organ failure on Wednesday at Mulago National Hospital.
