John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are talking candidly about their son's medical journey. The 38-year-old model revealed that Miles, 6, had just received a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis during a hospital stay for an unrelated condition.
In an Instagram post on July 31, Chrissy stated, "A few weeks ago, our Miles was sick in the hospital with a terrible case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food or water." "Since they attended the same camp, it happens that many of his friends were also ill with it."
Chrissy, who also shares a son named Wren, 13 months, and daughters Luna, 8, and Esti, 18 months, with John, stated that during Miles' medical team's treatment for the sickness, they learned there was more than just an infection. "The doctors knew something else was off about his blood tests,” she continued. "After more testing, we learned he is in the 'honeymoon period' of a lifetime of [Type 1 diabetes]."
Regarding the future trip, Chrissy stated that they have already begun modifying his regimen. "We gave him his first insulin shot last night, and now we're good to go!” she said. "It's a different, new world for us, and we are undoubtedly picking up a lot of new skills quickly."
A picture from the family's journey to support Team USA at the Olympics was posted alongside Chrissy's update. It was seen by some fans that Miles had a Type 1 diabetes monitor on his right arm in a photo when Chrissy, Luna, and Miles were holding signs supporting Simone Biles.
A few days ago, Chrissy shared a snapshot on her Instagram that caught the attention of many people. She thanked her followers for showing her "so much love and encouragement in every way possible.”
"The generosity of this community has already amazed me so much," Chrissy went on. Miles finds great comfort in knowing that he is not alone in experiencing what so many other people are.
The couple's message to anyone going through a similar situation is as they continue forward: Chrissy says, "We promise to be there for you guys like you have been there for us already!"
