Lizzo has candidly detailed her long-standing battle with anxiety and depression, revealing how a combination of meditation, lifestyle changes, and mindful isolation helped her regain control of her mental health and physical well-being.

“I’ve been working to get my anxiety under control for years,” the Grammy-winning singer shared during a TikTok livestream. “And then I decided that I want to release and I’m ready to stop waiting to be myself like fully and be happy.” Through meditation and intentional isolation, Lizzo created a space free from distractions, allowing her to focus inward. “I isolated a little bit, but not like made myself lonely, not the way I used to when I was depressed,” she said. “I isolated myself in a mindful way where I had no distractions.”

The “About Damn Time” hitmaker opened up about how she used to rely on external distractions. “I loved to distract myself with people. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking. I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that.”

Alongside her mental health transformation, Lizzo also addressed changes in her physical health, including significant weight loss. She revealed that cutting out her regular Starbucks habit—consuming up to three high-calorie drinks a day—was a turning point. “I wasn’t even aware my ‘two to three’ Starbucks drinks were contributing around 1,200 calories to my daily intake,” she admitted. The singer said she now prefers “super savory” foods in the morning and has eliminated coffee to “regulate my nervous system.”

“Everybody’s body is different—find out what works for you,” she told fans. However, she emphasized a universal truth: “The only thing that works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out. That’s just how the human body works.”

Her wellness journey also comes amid personal turmoil. Lizzo previously disclosed during an appearance on the On Purpose podcast that a wave of lawsuits in 2023 pushed her into a depressive state. “I had this feeling that everybody hates me for something that isn’t true,” she said. “I’ve been in a state of depression because I didn’t know how to fix it.”

Despite the challenges, Lizzo is moving forward with strength and vulnerability, reminding fans that healing—mentally and physically—is a journey that begins within.
