RAYE is putting her next album on hold until she finds love.

The 28-year-old British singer revealed her unusual plan while performing during the Today show's Citi Summer Concert Series on Thursday, Aug. 20. RAYE confirmed that she intends to call her third studio album And Then She Fell in Love, but she does not plan to begin recording it until the title reflects her real life.

"I'm on strike, basically. I'm on strike from making an album until I fall in love basically," RAYE said during the show's 3rd Hour.

The "Where Is My Husband!" singer explained that she has spent years writing songs about heartbreak, failed relationships and being single, and she has grown tired of repeatedly exploring those experiences in her music.

"I've written so many songs," she said, explaining that her perspective as a songwriter has often centered on relationships that did not work out, difficult experiences and feeling alone. She said she is now "very bored" with telling stories from that perspective.

Co-host Craig Melvin was surprised by her declaration and asked whether she was seriously refusing to release another album until she finds the right partner.

"Absolutely," RAYE replied, making it clear that she is committed to the decision. She even joked that it could take 10 years before the album arrives.

Weather anchor Al Roker suggested that she might find love sooner, prompting RAYE to acknowledge that his was the optimistic view she preferred to hold onto.

Despite putting her next album on pause, RAYE said she is excited about what the future could bring and wants to enjoy whatever experiences come her way.

"I'm just really excited to find another project, see what happens in life and just enjoy the twists and turns," she said.

RAYE released her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, in March, following her acclaimed debut, My 21st Century Blues.

She first revealed her plans for the third album during a TikTok Live in March. At the time, she said she was tired of writing songs about being single and men who had treated her badly. Instead, she wanted her next project to reflect a new chapter centered on falling in love.

RAYE has recently sparked romance speculation after being spotted with Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan at Six Flags in Los Angeles. A source previously told PEOPLE that the two are "just friends," although the source added that their relationship is new and that RAYE considers Jordan her type, describing him as warm and kind.
