Zaya Wade is officially starting a new chapter as a college student. On Thursday, Sept. 25, her father Dwyane Wade proudly marked the milestone by posting a photo of his 18-year-old daughter on Instagram Stories as she embarked on her first day. In the picture, Zaya wore a gray cardigan paired with a plaid mini skirt and sneakers. Across the image, the former NBA star wrote, "First Day of College!" while tagging Zaya's account to celebrate the moment.

Dwyane is a father of five. He shares two children, Zaire, 23, and Zaya, with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, and has a son, Xavier, 11, with Aja Metoyer. With his wife Gabrielle Union, he is dad to Kaavia, 6, and he is also the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris, 21. Wade has often shared moments of pride in his children's lives, including this past June when he celebrated Zaya's high school graduation.

At the time, he posted photos and videos from the ceremony, including a sweet clip where he stood beside his daughter as she held an award. "Head of the School," he wrote proudly across the photo, before adding another picture of himself holding up her diploma with the words, "We did it Joe!" He also shared close-ups of Zaya's award, which highlighted her recognition as the recipient of the "2024-2025 Head of School's Award."

Zaya's journey has often been celebrated publicly by her family. In 2023, she told Harper's Bazaar during the Icons series that her father continues to be her greatest source of inspiration. "My dad is who truly inspires me the most," she said in the interview. She reflected on how, as a child, she not only admired him as a sports figure but also came to see the ways in which he supported her as she grew into her own identity. "Kids always tend to look up to their parents, but not only did I idolize him growing up and see him as a real person, I realize that he has played such an essential role in supporting me and the ways I choose to present myself to the world," she shared.

Zaya, who came out as transgender in 2020, praised her father for being her strongest advocate. "He has been so supportive and my biggest advocate. He took the time and learned and grew. I want to have that same mentality going through anything in life."
