Prince Harry and Meghan Markle charitable foundation, Archewell, encountered a setback as it was marked "delinquent" by US authorities due to a missed registration requirement. The foundation spokesperson clarified that while all necessary documents were filed on time, a crucial registration fee was not received, leading to the temporary suspension of its charitable activities.
The State of California Department of Justice issued a delinquency notice" to the Archewell Foundation on May 3, citing incomplete registration processes. As a result, Archewell was prohibited from engaging in charitable endeavors, including soliciting or disturbing charitable funds. Despite having contributed grants totaling $1.2 million in the previous year, the foundation operations were halted until the registration issue could be resolved.
According to a spokesperson for the royal couple, the registration fee was promptly re-sent upon notification, ensuring a swift resolution to the matter. Importantly, the problem pertained solely to registration procedures and did not involve any lapses in tax filings, which were reported to have been completed and paid on schedule.
In their 2022 tax filings, Archewell disclosed assets totaling $11 million and disbursed funds to various charitable causes. Notable contributions included $100,000 to the Halo Trust, a mine- clearing charity supported by Princess Diana, and $200,000 for a gender justice" initiative in Washington. Additionally, the foundation allocated $125,000 to a civil-rights organization and $100,000 for a project promoting responsible technology use.
Established after Prince Harry and Meghan relocated to the United States and stepped down from their roles as working members of the British royal family, Archewell aimed to continue their philanthropic endeavors on a global scale. However, the recent registration hiccup highlighted administrative challenges faced by the foundation amid its efforts to fulfill its charitable mission.
Earlier this year, the couple rebranded their charitable initiatives under the sussex.com website, operating under the title of the Office of Prince Harry and Meghan. Despite the setback, Prince Harry and Meghan remained committed to their philanthropic pursuits, as evidenced by their recent visit to Nigeria and participation in the 10th-anniversary celebrations of the Invictus Games in the UK.
As Archewell resolves its registration issue and resumes its charitable activities, Prince Harry and Meghan continue to leverage their platform to advocate for various social causes and support organizations dedicated to making a positive impact globally.
