Johnson's colleagues quickly defended him. Jake Kasdan, director of Red One, described the actor as consistently reliable: "[Dwayne] never missed a day of work ever," he said. Kasdan further noted that lateness is common in Hollywood, adding, "He has a lot going on. He can be late sometimes, but such is Hollywood."
Co-star Chris Evans also defended Johnson, sharing that everyone on set understood his schedule, including his morning workouts. "It’s not like he’s late unexpectedly... It’s worked into the schedules and everyone knows it, so he shows up when he’s scheduled to show up," Evans explained. Reflecting on Johnson's professionalism compared to other actors, Evans remarked, "We all know exactly what he’s going to
do and when."
Johnson’s reputation as a generous team player shone through, too. Evans recalled a day on set when Johnson contributed significantly to a crew raffle, giving away around $100,000. "The [giveaway] pot was up to four or five grand... and before they pulled the name out, Dwayne said, ‘Let’s call it 20.’ And... by the end, it was close to a hundred thousand dollars," Evans shared.
