Justin Bieber recently joked about Stevie Wonder’s blindness in a playful Instagram Story shared on April 10. The 31-year-old pop star posted a screenshot of a FaceTime attempt with the 74-year-old music legend, overlaying it with the text: “This fool never sees my facetimessss.” He accompanied the post with Wonder’s hit song “Overjoyed.”
Though the joke sparked mixed reactions online, Bieber and Wonder share a long-standing connection. The two previously performed together in 2011, singing “Someday at Christmas” at a charity concert in Los Angeles and “The Christmas Song” during a performance on The X Factor. Bieber has also been a longtime admirer of Wonder, often covering his songs during his early YouTube days. Both artists were considered child prodigies—Wonder having signed his first record deal at age 11, and Bieber at 15.
Wonder, who has been blind since shortly after birth, spoke candidly about his early life in a 2024 interview on The Wonder of Stevie podcast, hosted by journalist Wesley Morris and former U.S. President Barack Obama. He recalled, “I was born. Shortly after that, I’m blind. My mother went through the different things, and so my experience with that was deep.” He added, “Mama, you shouldn’t cry, you’re making my head hurt. Maybe God has something for me that’s bigger than all this. History proved that true.”
The light-hearted jab from Bieber follows other similar jokes directed at Wonder. In 2023, Carmelo Anthony humorously claimed that Wonder once told him he loved watching him play basketball.
Meanwhile, Bieber has been stirring conversations with a string of cryptic posts. In a recent Instagram Story, he wrote, “People told me my whole life, ‘Wow Justin, u deserve that,’ and I personally have always felt unworthy. Like I was a fraud.” He continued, “I say all this to say if you feel sneaky, welcome to the club. I definitely feel unequipped and unqualified most days.”
Despite speculation about his mental health, sources close to Bieber maintain he is in a good place. One insider noted in February, “Justin is a happy camper right now,” adding that he’s simply “being himself” and ignoring public scrutiny.
Bieber is also enjoying fatherhood. Since the arrival of his son, Jack Blues, in August 2024, a source revealed that he is “obsessed” with the baby and is a “really good dad.”
