Viola Davis, known for her powerful roles like in *The Woman King*, isn’t immune to fear — especially when it comes to skydiving.
Appearing on *Late Night with Seth Meyers* on Thursday, April 10, the 59-year-old actress talked about filming her new movie *G20*, where she was asked to get into a helicopter for a stunt scene. She quickly refused, laughing at the irony since she had once willingly jumped out of a plane.
“They wanted me to get in the helicopter. I said, ‘I’m not getting in the helicopter!’” Davis said, laughing. “But at the same time, I’ve jumped out of a plane. What kind of sense does that make?”
When host Seth Meyers asked if she regretted the skydiving decision, Davis didn’t hesitate: “Oh no, Seth. I had *many* moments where I regretted that,” she joked.
She then revealed the hilarious reason behind her leap: it all came down to some playful competition with her daughter’s nanny. “We were on a big vacation and my nanny, Molly—beautiful girl—jumped out of the plane. My daughter was like, ‘Molly is so brave. I love Molly.’ And I was like, ‘F--- Molly!’” Davis said, cracking up. “‘Mama can jump out of a plane too.’ So I strapped in and said, ‘I’m going up there.’ And as soon as I got up, I thought, ‘What the hell was I thinking?’”
Davis shares her daughter Genesis, now 14, with husband Julius Tennon. She also recently appeared on *Good Morning America*, where she spoke to Michael Strahan about how meaningful her daughter’s reaction to *G20* was for her.
“She was so excited. She kept saying, ‘Oh my goodness, Mom, you’re golden! You’re golden, mama!’ She laughed, she cried,” Davis shared. “It meant everything to be the hero in her eyes — especially now, during the teenage years when moms seem to disappear.”
“Watching her watch me like that... it meant the world,” she added.
