It was not Keri Hilson's intention to bring anyone down.

In her 2009 remix Turnin Me On, the singer of Pretty Girl Rock opened up about how much she regretted recording the verse that many fans have taken to be a Beyoncé jab.

It’s a regret, Keri acknowledged when she appeared on The Breakfast Club radio show on April 9. But not in the sense that most people would assume, as I didn't write that song. I did not say those things.

The Knock You Down singer actually claimed that when Polow da Don, who co- produced Turnin Me On with Timbaland, first played her the extra lyrics, which were initially composed by Ester Dean, she attempted to remove the verse from the song.

Automatically, I was like, ‘I’m not saying that, Keri recalled. That was my position

What were the lyrics that she was unwilling to sing? The verse in question said, If you believe that you're the best, your vision is cloudy. You can dance and sing, but she needs to move it to the left. She needs to go have some babies. I'm not turning it off; I'm keeping it turned on. She should sit down. Tell these people that I have been writing your songs for a long time.

Even though Keri claimed she didn't know at the time who the words were specifically referring to, she recalled instantly recognizing that the verse was shady.

I started writing my own and tried to argue with him about it, but he said, It was really strong, Keri remarked about Polow. In an executive-artist way.

The 42-year-old ultimately recorded the song, though, in an attempt to salvage her debut album, In A Perfect World..., which was scheduled for release later that year.
