Rapper Nicki Minaj has been a target in yet another swatting incident that happened when she was out of town. Law enforcement swarmed her hidden hills home after someone falsely claimed a black woman had been shot at her address.
According to TMZ, at 7:05 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the community, according to a department spokesperson. The caller said that a friend shot a female Black adult and that two possible suspects were at the location wearing all black, the spokesperson said.
After deputies went to the location, they discovered no one was at the residency and there was no emergency whatsoever, just a swatting attempt. The call was determined to be a false 9-1-1 call that was used to trigger a law enforcement response. Swatting refers to when someone makes a false report to trigger a huge police response to someone’s home.
This recent swatting incident comes few years after the rapper had to deal with similar situations in July and August 2023. People had called the police, claiming that someone was shot at her house and her child, Papa Bear was being abused.
Nicki Minaj and her family were not on the West Coast when this incident happened. Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Cardi B and Chris Pines have been victims of swatting. Cardi B had to deal with visits from Child Protective Services after a “prank” call suggested that her children were in danger. Also, a social media streamer and his friends were led out in handcuffs after a viewer swatted him during a livestream.
Swatting has become rampant and this comes after Young Scooter, an Atlanta based rapper was swatted. A fake call sent police to his house and when he tried to get away, he suffered a very fatal injury jumping a fence.
