DAVE CHAPPELLE SAYS REPUBLICANS ‘WEAPONIZED’ HIS TRANSGENDER JOKES

Speaking during an interview on NPR’s _Newsmakers_, Chappelle addressed the backlash surrounding his past stand-up specials, including The Closer and The Dreamer, which drew criticism for jokes about the transgender community.
“I did resent that the Republican Party ran on transgender jokes,” he said. “You know, I felt like they were doing a weaponized version of what I was doing. That’s not what I was doing.”
Chappelle pointed to a specific incident on Capitol Hill to illustrate his concerns. He recalled taking photos with lawmakers without considering their political affiliations, saying, “I just take pictures with whoever asked. I didn’t ask how they vote or what their voting record is.”
He then described an encounter with Lauren Boebert, who later shared their photo online with a political message. “She said, ‘Can I get a picture?’… So I just took the picture,” he explained. “And then she posted the picture… and says something to the effect of, ‘Just two people that know that it’s just two genders.’ Just instantly, like, weaponized or politicized.”
Chappelle added, “I got to the arena, and I lit her ass up for doing that. And she should never do that to a person like me.”
The comedian has faced ongoing criticism since 2021, when _The Closer_ sparked protests, including walkouts by Netflix employees. Despite the
backlash, the streaming platform continued to support his work under the banner of “artistic freedom.”
Reflecting on the broader reaction to his material, Chappelle said he does not object to criticism but takes issue with attempts to limit what he can say. “I’m not even mad [people] take issue with my work.
Good, fine. Who cares?” he said. “What I take issue with is the idea that because they don’t like it, I’m not allowed to say it.” He continued, “Art is a nuanced endeavour… I have a belief that they are trying to take the nuance out of speech in American culture… Everything seems absolute… I don’t see the world in red or blue.”
Chappelle also briefly addressed Donald Trump, suggesting that while there may be humour in his persona, the impact of his actions makes it harder to view him purely as comedic. “There are funny things about him… But I think what he does is so consequential… I don’t know how funny it is,” he said.

POLICE PROBE KATY PERRY OVER RUBY ROSE CLAIM

Officials from Victoria Police confirmed that detectives are examining what they described as a “historical sexual assault” reported to have taken place in Melbourne in 2010. Authorities noted the alleged incident occurred at a licensed venue within the city’s central business district, adding that inquiries remain ongoing and further comment is limited at this stage.
Rose, 40, alleged in a series of social media posts that the incident took place at the now-closed Spice Market nightclub during her early career years. She claimed she has since submitted formal reports and supporting material to investigators, signaling a shift from public statements to a legal process.
In a follow-up message, the actress explained she would no longer discuss the matter publicly, citing standard police procedure. She described the decision as both necessary and relieving, suggesting it allows space for personal healing while authorities handle the case.
Perry, 41, has strongly denied the allegations through a representative, who characterized the claims as “categorically false” and “reckless.” The statement further asserted that similar accusations made publicly in the past have been disputed, urging caution around
unverified narratives circulating online.
The situation has ignited widespread debate across social media, with supporters and skeptics weighing in as details remain limited. Despite the heightened attention, investigators have not publicly named any individuals connected to the case, maintaining a measured approach as they assess the information provided.
The development underscores the complexities surrounding historical allegations, particularly when they involve high-profile figures and events said to have occurred years earlier.
As the investigation continues, both parties appear to be stepping back from public commentary, leaving the next phase of the matter firmly in the hands of authorities.

DJ AND PIONEER IN HIP-HOP SPACE AFRIKA BAMBAATAA DIES AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH CANCER
We're already saying goodbye to some of our favorite artists, innovators, and cultural changemakers in 2026. Each of these souls shaped our history and heritage, leaving an impression that will endure for generations after their deaths. Their legacies will live on through those who knew them personally and professionally.
Bronx-native Lance Taylor (professionally known as Afrika Bambaataa) is one of the celebrity and was known to many as a pioneer in the hip-hop space. His lyricism and techniques were held closely to many during his time as part of the music group Soulsonic Force in the 1980s.
He was also a well-known DJ and producer across New York, where he originated the breakbeat style of DJ’ing. Bambaataa gained notoriety for his founding of the Universal Zulu Nation, where he, others, spread awareness about hip-hop.
Though having led the organization for several years, he stepped down in 2016 after allegations arose of sexual abuse towards those within the organization and fostered distrust among its members.
His musical skills were honored during the 2015 Global Spin Awards, where he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Bambaataa passed away on April 9, 2026, after a long battle with cancer, just a few days shy of what would’ve been his 69th birthday.
