Wendy Williams’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, has forcefully denied recent reports claiming the former talk show host has been re-diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. According to Tacopina, the leaked medical records circulating in the media are false and part of a calculated effort to keep Williams under an excessively restrictive guardianship.
In a strongly worded statement, Tacopina challenged those behind the leak to present real evidence. He questioned the credibility of the claims, demanding that any doctor allegedly involved step forward and be willing to testify under oath. Tacopina emphasized that neither he nor Williams has ever seen the supposed report and called the leak an invasion of her basic rights.
“The critical questions are these: Where is the actual medical report?” he asked. “And who is the physician willing to stand by it in open court?” Tacopina insisted the timing and nature of the disclosure pointed to bad-faith tactics designed to prolong Williams’ guardianship status.
Williams has lived under a court-appointed guardianship since 2022, following concerns raised by her financial institution and medical advisors about possible cognitive decline and vulnerability to exploitation. Since then, the arrangement has remained highly controversial, with both fans and members of her inner circle questioning whether it is in her best interest.
The latest reports alleged that new neurological testing reaffirmed her earlier diagnosis of dementia, but Tacopina argues these claims are strategically leaked to justify keeping her under control. He described the move as an attempt by individuals with “a vested interest” in limiting her independence and financial autonomy.
Williams herself has consistently maintained that she is of sound mind and capable of making her own decisions. She has repeatedly asked for independent medical evaluations, claiming previous assessments were biased or manipulated to support the case for guardianship. Tacopina’s aggressive stance suggests that the fight for Wendy Williams’ independence is far from over.
