25-year-old Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested last week at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for assaulting her boyfriend. Richardson, who is the reigning 100-meter world champion was booked into the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington. She was released on Monday afternoon.
The USA Track and Field said in a statement, “USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,”
The police report said an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman.
After reviewing camera footage, Richardson was seen reaching out with her left arm to grab Coleman’s backpack and pull it away. When Coleman tried to walk away from Richardson, she was seen getting in his way and shoving him into a wall.
On Thursday, Richardson ran in the opening round of the women’s 100 meters at U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. Richardson automatically qualifies for the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion.
