Monique Angela, popularly known as Monique took to social media to write an open letter, expressing her frustration with Tyler Perry. The comedian and actress took to social media to talk about her situations with Perry, claiming he mishandled her.
Angie Stone recently passed away from a car accident, leaving the music industry grieving. Her celebration of life was held in South Carolina with many celebrities, including Tyler Perry sharing their final remark. During the service, Tyler Perry delivered an emotional speech that resonated with
those in attendance. He passionately addressed the unfair treatment Angie Stone had faced from promoters and record labels who had failed to compensate and give her royalties.
“Women like Angie Stone, who’ve been in the industry for so long, you’re going to forget about what she did? All the people she helped and put on?” Perry said, his voice rising with emotion. “You have to go through something to write a song like ’20 Dollars.’” He voiced his frustration over how Stone, who had given so much to the industry, had been exploited. “All those years, all those songs, all that money that was owed to her—where is it? It’s wrong!” he declared.
Following Tyler Perry’s remarks, Monique claims that she hopes what Perry said at Angie’s funeral will inspire him to correct the wrongs he has done to her and her family. She started by sharing her condolences to Angie Stone’s family and friends. She claims Tyler Perry’s remarks during Angie Stone’s funeral has made her and her husband, Sidney to reflect on “some unsettling discrepancies in your actions towards me.”
Monique claims that despite Tyler Perry asking for accountability for Stone’s money, she has lost tens of millions due to a false narrative Perry perpetuated against her, leading her to be blackballed. “You mentioned being “tired” of us not receiving the benefits we deserve. Yet you asked me to promote Precious for free, without a contract or compensation, which highlights your double standard,” Monique wrote, accusing Perry of double standards.
Monique also claims she does not understand how Perry condemns poor treatment of others, yet he has treated her poorly severally and accused her of being difficult despite never working with her before. She also alleges she has audio documentation to back up his maltreatment towards her. She also claims Perry promised her an apology but never apologized to her.
