The 2025 GRAMMYs took place on Sunday, Feb. 2, live at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This event marked the 67 th Grammy Awards edition and it was filled with emotional, messy and heartwarming occurrences. There were shocking wins, emotional wins, controversial speeches and controversial moments.
For the first time ever in Grammy history, singer Taylor Swift lost in every category she was nominated in. All she did all night was dance all night and celebrate other artists’ win with several clips going viral online. Taylor Swift was nominated for: Album of the Year, “The Tortured Poets Department”, Song of the Year for “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Record of the Year: “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: “Us” with Gracie Abrams and Best Pop Vocal Album: “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Beyoncé finally won Album of the year for “Cowboy Carter.” This is the first time the singer has won Album of the year despite having 99 Grammys nomination. Her shocking reaction to winning the award has instantly become a meme. Her speech was heartwarming to a point Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish cried. Taylor Swift presented her award and they had a heartfelt moment on stage.
Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori had a controversial moment at the red carpet, with Censori stripping naked. It is alleged that the pair was not invited for the event and they were eventually escorted out. Chappell Roan won best new artist and that marked her first Grammy ever. In her speech, Roan called out the “exploitative” nature of the music industry for not paying new artists a livable wage so that they can afford healthcare. Roan also revealed she was signed as a minor. She won best new artist against artists like Benson Boone,
Doechii, Teddy Swims, Shaboozey, and RAYE. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars used their chance on stage to demand respect for Transgender and Gay people. The pair won an award for best pop duo performance for their collaboration “Die with a smile.” In her speech, lady Gaga stated that Trans people are not invisible and that they deserve love and lifted up.
The Weeknd return to the Grammys. The Weeknd has always expressed how he genuinely feels about the Grammys and often referred to the Academy as “corrupt.” At the Grammys, the CEO, Mason Harvey Junior puts all the tweets the singer had tweeted about the Grammys up on a big screen for everyone and promised that they are not corrupted. He then went ahead to announce that the Weeknd will perform at the Grammys after 7 years.
Doechii wins rap album of the year and she is the third woman to win. She won after Cardi B and Miss Lauryn Hill. In her speech, Doechii emotionally expressed how hard she worked on the album and shared words of encouragement to young black women.
