Rumors have been circulating online that pop star Ariana Grande was paid significantly more than her co-star Cynthia Erivo for their roles in the upcoming 'Wicked' film, but Universal Studios has officially dismissed the claims.
Social media speculated that Grande received $15 million for her role as Glinda, compared to Erivo’s $1 million for playing Elphaba. However, a Universal spokesperson stated, “Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on Wicked.”
The film, directed by Jon Chu, is the first of a two-part franchise adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. Both stars are receiving critical acclaim for their performances, and the movie has already proven to be a box office hit, grossing an estimated $162 million during its opening weekend.
While the studio has clarified the pay rumors, 'Wicked' remains a major cultural moment, showcasing two powerhouse performers in equally iconic roles. Fans continue to celebrate the musical’s legacy as it dominates theaters worldwide.
