Selena Gomez is advocating for her own rights.

Selena responded to comments made by TikTok users about her appearance after the 32-year-old made an appearance at the French American Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 29 for the premiere of her film Emilia Perez.

More precisely, the singer of Same Old Love reacted to a video in which she was seen posing with her hands over her stomach, allegedly hiding her body.

According to a screenshot released by TMZ, Selena wrote, This makes me sick, in the comments section beneath the since-deleted video. My small intestine has SEBO. It erupts. The fact that I don't appear ill doesn't matter to me. That's not my body. The story is over. I'm not a victim, I promise. I'm only a human.

According to the Mayo Clinic, an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine—particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract—occurs when there is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

Selena wore an asymmetrical little black dress with a thigh-high slit down the side for the film's premiere.

Despite Selena's glamorous press tour for the film, the founder of Rare Beauty had no trouble highlighting her less glamorous sides. On October 22, Selena ridiculed her skin flaws and shared a picture of a breakout after the October 21 premiere at the Egyptian Theatre Hollywood in Los Angeles. She wrote, Even my skin is over me.

Talking about her experience with her body is nothing new for the Only Murders in the Building star, who was diagnosed with lupus and received a kidney transplant in 2017.

Selena said, None of the sample sizes were fitting, and that would make me feel embarrassed, in an October 3 interview with Fast Company. But how unreasonable is it to expect the body of a normal woman to remain unchanged?

I had just had my heart broken, she added. I didn't need to observe everyone's actions. Then there were times when I didn't feel good about my appearance because of what I saw on Instagram.Whoa, I wish I had that kind of body.

Despite the criticism she receives, Selena has also been candid about spreading messages of love.

In a February 2023 video, she stated, I just want people to know that you're wonderful and beautiful. Indeed, there are days when we might feel like shit, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself, and I think that my medications are what help me. So, no, I'm not and never will be a model. And I think they're awesome; mind you, I just, I'm definitely not that.
