Jennifer Lopez has officially requested to change to her maiden name amid her divorce from Ben Affleck. The singer and actress, who had legally changed her name to Jennifer Lynn Affleck following her marriage to the "Argo" actor in 2022, filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing "irreconcilable differences.

"In her divorce filing, Lopez requested that her name be legally restored to Jennifer Lynn Lopez. She also asked the court to deny both her and Affleck the opportunity to collect spousal support and for both parties to pay their own attorneys' fees.

The couple first met in 2002 on the set of the romantic comedy "Gigli" and were engaged later that year. However, their relationship faced intense media scrutiny, leading them to call off their engagement in January 2004. After nearly two decades apart, they rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in a Las Vegas wedding chapel on July 16, 2022.

Despite their efforts to make the relationship work, Lopez and Affleck's marriage faced challenges. Speculation about their marital issues began earlier this year when Lopez attended the 2024 Met Gala without Affleck. The couple's separation date is listed as April 26, 2024, in the court
documents.

In a 2022 interview with Vogue, Lopez addressed her choice to adopt Affleck's last name, stating, "People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together. We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem. I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person."

The divorce filing comes exactly two years after their second wedding ceremony. They have both been married before with this being Affleck's seconds marriage and Jennifer's fourth. Affleck was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children, while Lopez has twins with her ex-husband, singer Marc Anthony.
