Latto has been slammed by not only fans but also fellow celebrities after she referred to Lil Kim as the Greatest Of All Time (G.O.A.T) rapper. Latto originally proclaimed Lil Kim as the greatest during her Complex chat with sister Brooklyn Nicole, where she first referred to herself as the greatest before recognizing the “Crush On You” rhymer’s impact.
“But like, the GOAT is Lil’ Kim, for sure. [A] fashion icon, [with] timeless music, timeless looks, gon’ forever be a staple, in not only rap, but female rap. And she the GOAT because she is a queen for real, like, off camera, she a queen… I love her, and she ‘Big Mama,’ too. It’s just a ‘Big Momma thang,'” she said.
This comes as a surprise because Latto has always referred to Nicki Minaj as the greatest rapper till their fallout. Nicki Minaj, who is yet to win a Grammy, felt robbed after her song, “Super Freaky Girl” was moved from the rap category to the pop one. She claimed that Latto's song “Big Energy” is more of pop than rap yet it is in the rap category. “If ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is a pop song, what genre is ‘Big Energy?” Minaj asked.
“If you know something is unfair as an artist, speak on that sh–,” Minaj went on. “If you can’t tell by now that there is a concerted effort to give newer artists things they really don’t deserve over people who have been deserving for many years, they you not paying attention.”
After Nicki's sentiments, the two rappers started going back and forth, with Latto calling Minaj a bully, despite being older than her mother. The exchange went on for hours, with other female rappers, including Azealia Banks, Erica Banks and Chika, chiming in.
Akbar V, one of Nicki's close friend and former collaborator claims her impact in female rap should be recognized, slamming Latto for referring to Lil Kim as the greatest rapper.
“Lil Kim was the Goat … her and foxy both had they run and did a lot for us female rappers,” she began before continuing, “so did eve, missy elliot , etc but what about when there was a stand still and no label wanted to sign female rappers? Who came and open the door and had the longest run in history Nicki Minaj … so let’s not say Kim is the Goat of all time because no dck grabbing it’s @NICKIMINAJ. Give that damn girl her flowers when it’s due, yall don’t got to fk with each other but keep it a stack.”
