Greek-Nigerian NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo has been traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat in a blockbuster NBA deal.
The terms, according to a person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the move had yet to receive the required league approval: Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis are heading to Miami for Wisconsin native Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis.
In return, the Bucks will receive Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, three first-round picks, a second-round selection, and a pick swap, as they look to rebuild for the future after Antetokounmpo delivered a championship during the 2021 NBA Finals.
Antetokounmpo will be eligible on Jan. 6, 2027, to sign a maximum extension with the Heat: four years, $275 million if he opts out; or three years, $214 million if he opts in.
Antetokounmpo averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, and leaves Milwaukee as one of the franchise greats in his 13 seasons with the team.
