Former LSU wide receiver, Kyren Lacy was found dead in an alleged suicide days before grand jury hearing in fatal hit-and-run case. The 24 year old was found dead in Houston according to the NY post. This comes after the athlete was accused of causing a car crash that killed a 78 year old man in December 2024. He then fled the scene without offering any assistance. Lacy later turned himself in on January 2025 and was released on a $151,000 bail.

The NFL hopeful died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as he had been facing numerous felony charges from a fatal car crash in December. He was facing charges such as negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run resulting in death and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacy’s case was set to be heard by a grand jury nearly 48 hours after he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His girlfriend, Cydney Theard, spoke at the funeral service for the late Louisiana native. He was the most loving man I've ever known; he was the light in every dark room, even when social media tried to misrepresent him, Theard emotionally expressed. Thank you for loving me, for choosing me, and for being mine.

Theard also talks about Lacy’s love for football. “Kyren didn’t just play football, he gave everything to it. It wasn’t just a sport to him," Theard said. “It was his passion, his purpose and his sanctuary.

Lacy’s father, Kenny, addressed the importance of mental health during his remarks, urging others to be more understanding of the invisible battles people face. He spoke about his son not just as a gifted athlete but as a kind-hearted, gentle young man who cared deeply for those around him. His mother also sang a farewell song for her son, an emotional rendition of Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You as she said goodbye.
