The death of American influencer Ashly Robinson while on holiday in Zanzibar has raised many questions, with local authorities confirming that investigations are still ongoing. Robinson, aged 31 and known online as Ashlee Jenae, had been sharing moments from what appeared to be a joyful trip to Tanzania just days before her sudden passing.
According to statements from Zanzibar police, Robinson was found unconscious in her villa and was later taken to hospital, where she died hours afterward. Her partner, Joe McCann, 45, who had been traveling with her, is currently speaking to police as a witness. Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made and that McCann is not considered a suspect at this stage. However, his passport has been withheld while the investigation continues.
Police reports indicate that the couple had a misunderstanding during their stay, after which hotel management separated them into different rooms. The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of authorities after hotel staff raised concerns about Robinson’s wellbeing. She was then taken to hospital for treatment but did not survive.
Robinson’s family has expressed deep confusion and grief over her death, saying the circumstances do not make sense to them. In an interview with CBS News, her parents described her as a bright and loving person who had been happy and full of life. They noted that she had just celebrated her birthday and had recently become engaged during the trip, making the sudden turn of events even harder to understand.
Her mother, Yolanda Endres, said the family was shocked by how quickly things changed. She explained that they were informed of the situation by McCann about eleven hours after the incident, and that the information provided at the time lacked detail. Later, they received confirmation of Robinson’s death from the hotel where she had been staying.
The hotel, Zuri Zanzibar, released a statement expressing sadness over what it described as a tragic incident involving one of its guests. The management confirmed it is cooperating fully with local authorities and the United States embassy but declined to provide further details, citing privacy concerns and the importance of preserving the integrity of the investigation.
Zanzibar police have also stated that they are awaiting the official medical examination report, which is expected to provide more clarity on the cause of death. Until then, the case remains open and under active review.
The United States Department of State has acknowledged the death of an American citizen in Zanzibar and emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of Americans abroad remains a top priority.
In the days leading up to her death, Robinson had shared photos and videos from her travels, including visits to scenic locations and a zoo in the Kilimanjaro region. Her social media pages have since been filled with messages of condolence from followers who remember her as vibrant and inspiring.
As the investigation continues, Robinson’s family says they are working closely with authorities in hopes of finding answers. For now, many questions remain unanswered, leaving loved ones and followers seeking clarity about the events that led to her untimely death.
