Netflix recently released a new series titled “La Palma”, and it’s already making waves among viewers. This Norwegian disaster drama has quickly climbed to the top 10 most- watched series on Netflix in the UK, currently holding the third spot. Released just days ago, the show has captivated audiences with its thrilling plot and stunning visuals.

The series follows a Norwegian family who checks into their favorite hotel on the Canary Island of La Palma for a Christmas holiday. However, their vacation takes a dramatic turn when a young scientist discovers alarming signs of an impending volcanic eruption from the island's Cumbre Vieja volcano. Well, it just gets thicker as this scientist tries to convince her colleagues that the worst-case scenario-a massive eruption that could trigger the largest tsunami the world has ever seen-is in fact about to happen.

The storyline has kept them all hooked, and the on-screen intensity has kept audiences on their toes. Hashtags have been trending since the release of the first episode, with fans expressing enthusiasm and appreciation for the show. One viewer found it very binge-worthy, while complimenting the great visuals and action nonstop. Another viewer pointed out the compelling characters and the suspenseful storytelling that keeps the audience hooked right from the beginning to the end.

The series, though completely fictionalized, takes its story from true events. The Volcan Cumbre Vieja is indeed the Canary Islands’ most active volcano, and its last actual eruption occurred in 2021. However, creative liberties were taken, making the show not a direct tale of what happened.

The series has received a pretty good reception, though there is some criticism regarding certain plot events, especially the finale. One viewer was frustrated, explaining that they were yelling at the TV, wondering why ‘X’ was done or ‘Y’ was allowed to happen. Another viewer commented on how emotional the series made them, posting they were “balling my eyes out and humming that tune”.

Overall, “La Palma” has been a pleasant surprise for many viewers. It offers a thrilling escape from traditional festive films and shows, making it a perfect binge-watch for the

holiday season. Whether you’re a fan of disaster dramas or just looking for something new to watch, “La Palma” might be worth adding to your watchlist.
