Carla Jeffery’s twin brother Carlon is sharing his final exchange with the Disney Channel star before her death.
Carlon, who is also an actor, shared a screenshot of the last text message he sent the actress, known for the movie Zombies and the Disney Channel series Shake It Up, who died on Sept. 1 at 33.
“Hey sis, call me back when you get this,” he began the text. “I was just calling to see how your day went! I love you to the moon and back sis.”
Carlon went on to say how proud he was of Carla, writing, “Your resilience, your grace, your infectious smile that lights up a room. You are truly a light that shines bright. Don’t let anyone.. dim that light.. even yourself.”
He continued, “The light you carry is special and must be protected at all times. You are the best sister a brother could ask for. I pray we continued to grow closer to one another along this journey.”
Carlon signed off his text by telling Carla, “I got your back in this life and the next.”
Carla’s death was announced on Sept. 2 by her longtime manager Carla Alexander. “For more than 20 years, we had the privilege of watching her grow into a beautiful, vibrant, and incredibly talented woman whose radiant smile could light up any room,” the statement on Instagram read in part. “Carla was more than a client; she was family.”
The caption from the Instagram post read, “May be gone from this world but not from our hearts. Rest in Peace Carla J. Jeffery ❤️🙏🏾.” A cause of death was not disclosed at the time.
The Houston native began acting at 12 and made her onscreen debut in the 2006 movie Phat Girlz as a younger version of Mo’Nique’s character.
Her television credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Shake It Up, iCarly, Good Luck Charlie, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Scream Queens.

Carla’s cheerleading background participating in a competitive cheer squad at only 9 years old came in handy when she portrayed cheerleader Bree in the Disney Channel franchise Zombies.
The franchise launched its first film in 2018, followed by 2020’s Zombies 2 and 2022’s Zombies 3. Carla then took her talents to the recording booth for the 2024 cartoon Zombies: The Re-Animated Series.
