In a definitive victory for one of Hollywood’s longest-standing unions, Linda Mathis has officially moved to dismiss her divorce petition against television personality Judge Greg Mathis. The filing, entered in court earlier this week marks the legal end to a turbulent chapter that began with a high-profile separation nearly two years ago.

The road to reconciliation started in August 2024, when Linda shocked fans by filing for divorce after 39 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. At the time of the filing, the couple had been separated for several weeks, with Linda requesting spousal support and signaling a permanent end to their relationship. The move was particularly striking given the couple’s reputation as a cornerstone of stability in the entertainment industry since their marriage in 1985.

However, the legal process was quickly overshadowed by Judge Mathis’s public and private campaign to win his wife back. Speaking candidly in the months following the split, the Emmy-winning judge described the separation as the most devastating experience of his life, second only to the death of his mother. “I’d do anything to get my mother back,” Mathis stated during an emotional interview. “So I did anything to get my wife back.”

The couple’s efforts toward repair became public in late 2025 during a joint appearance on The Tamron Hall Show. During the exclusive interview, they revealed that while the initial separation was a “wake-up call” regarding neglect and work-life balance, they had spent the intervening year “learning each other again.” Linda shared that the time apart allowed her to prioritize her own well-being, which ultimately created the space for a healthier reunion. She emphasized that despite the legal paperwork, they never truly stopped being a family.

The April 2026 dismissal “without prejudice” serves as the formal closure of the case, though sources close to the couple indicate they have been living together and fully reconciled since late 2024. The Mathises, who share four adult children, have expressed a renewed commitment to their  union as they approach their 41 st wedding anniversary.

For the millions of viewers who have watched Judge Mathis preside over thousands of cases, the resolution of his own domestic dispute offers a rare “happily ever after” in the often-contentious world of celebrity probate court. With the gavel finally down on their divorce proceedings, the couple appears focused on a future that prioritizes their partnership over the demands of their public careers.
