Lizzo is adding author to her list of achievements after announcing the release of her first children’s book.
On March 16, the 37 year old singer revealed that she has written a picture book inspired by her own childhood experiences. The book, titled
Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’, tells a story that reflects her early connection with music, particularly her love for playing the flute.
Lizzo shared the news with fans on Instagram, posting the cover of the book and celebrating the new milestone in her career. In the caption, she excitedly announced that she is now an author and expressed her happiness about the project.
According to information released by the publisher Simon & Schuster, the story follows a cheerful young girl who is searching for a place where she truly belongs. During her journey, she meets a lively and confident flute named Sasha B. Flootin’. The instrument, which is described as bold and spirited, is also struggling to find its own musical voice.
Together, the girl and the flute help each other overcome their challenges. Through friendship and self discovery, they learn that believing in themselves and supporting one another can lead to growth and confidence. The story highlights themes of identity, belonging and creativity.
Lizzo explained that many people often ask her how she first began playing the flute. She joked that she did not choose the instrument but instead felt as though the flute chose her.
The book will also include a special feature for readers. Each copy will contain a QR code that directs readers to an original song created by Lizzo specifically for the project. The song is meant to complement the story and bring the characters to life through music.
In a statement about the book, Lizzo reflected on her own childhood experiences. She said that when she was younger, she sometimes struggled to feel like she fit in. Learning to play the flute helped her develop confidence and express herself in ways she had not before.
She added that she hopes the story encourages young readers to embrace their passions. According to Lizzo, discovering something you love can help give you a sense of purpose and belonging while guiding you toward your dreams.
Kendra Levin, vice president and editorial director at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, said the book reflects the positive and empowering message Lizzo has shared throughout her career. Levin added that the story reminds children that their voices matter and that self acceptance can help them make a difference.
