American gymnast, Simone Biles gives her stance on competing in the 2028 Olympics, claiming it would be “greedy” of her to compete . She is widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time and one of the greatest Olympians of all time. She is the most awarded gymnast of all time and her performance at the 2024 Olympics cemented her as the “Sportsperson of the year.”
In her interview with the publication, Biles touches on the sacrifices she had to make as a Sportsperson, claiming sports is “not always fun” and she at times feels “forced” to go on and carry the weight.
“You do feel like you have to accomplish something and that has weight that you carry, and nobody realizes that. It’s hard and it’s not always fun. So we have to really remember why we’re doing it, who we’re doing it for, and if it is really an enjoyable experience that we can look back on in a couple of years. There’s a lot to take in consideration, especially that we’re so much older. You can just, like, have a great life, go get a job and move on,” Biles said.
When asked about the 2028 Olympic games, which will take place in Los Angeles, Biles claims she feels like there’s nothing left to accomplish and she knows “when to be done.” She claims going back and competing for the games would make her “greedy.”
“Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done,” Biles stated. “If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”
