Actress Tia Mowry has shed light on the changing dynamics of her relationship with twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley. The candid comments came as part of a teaser for Tia's upcoming reality show "Tia Mowry: My Next Act," set to premiere on WE TV this October.
"Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce," Tia confessed, referring to her 2022 split from actor Cory Hardrict after 14 years of marriage. "It's times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her. But that's just not where we are right now."
The admission caught many fans off guard, given the twins' historically close bond. Rising to fame together on the 90s sitcom "Sister, Sister," Tia and Tamera's on-screen chemistry mirrored their real-life connection. They later starred in their own reality show "Tia & Tamera" from 2011-2013, giving viewers an intimate look at their relationship.
However, signs of potential distance began emerging in recent years. The sisters' social media interactions became less frequent, and joint public appearances dwindled. Tamera's 2018 move to Napa, California, while Tia remained in Los Angeles, added a geographical element to their separation.
Despite the apparent rift, a source close to the sisters told PEOPLE magazine that Tia's comments were primarily about physical distance rather than an emotional divide. "The sisters are still close, but the quote being referenced was about the lack of proximity in their physical location," the source clarified.
This interpretation aligns with Tamera's supportive statements following Tia's divorce announcement. In a November 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tamera praised her sister's courage, saying, "She is living her authentic, true self. I told her, 'I'm so proud of you...you are showing other women — and hell, even men — that you walk in your truth.'"
The sisters' evolving relationship reflects the complexities of adult sibling dynamics, especially in the public eye. As Tia navigates her
post-divorce journey, she's embracing vulnerability and self-discovery. "I think I lost me," she admitted in the teaser. "I have this beautiful house, I have amazing kids, but the one thing I don't have is love."
