Speaking during an interview on The Breakfast Club released Monday, June 9, Johnson, 21, addressed the shift in their relationship, saying plainly, “We’re not friends.” Despite the fallout, she emphasized he bond they shared during their time at LSU, particularly in winning the NCAA national championship in 2023. “That bond that we had, and that thing we did together—win the national championship—you can never take that away from us,” she said.

Johnson and Reese played pivotal roles in LSU’s victory over Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, which brought LSU its first NCAA women’s basketball title. During their time as teammates, the two appeared to share a close friendship both on and off the court.

However, Johnson revealed that behind the scenes, some tension had developed. “It was a lot of media, it was a lot of locker room stuff,” she explained. Without going into detail, she hinted at behind-the-scenes issues that led to the breakdown of their friendship.

“You know, sometimes stuff happens, you wish it didn’t, but it does, and you just gotta grow,” she added.

Despite their personal differences, Johnson said she continues to support Reese, who now plays professionally with the Chicago Sky in the WNBA. “I support her in everything she does,” Johnson said, praising Reese’s performance and resilience. “She’s killing it in the WNBA.”

Johnson also said she often defends Reese online, especially when people criticize her game. “I be on social media clowning the folks that be trying to talk down on her,” she said. “I’m just proud of her, but like, you know, stuff happens.”

The comments mark the first time Johnson has publicly acknowledged the end of her friendship with Reese. While fans had speculated for months about possible tension between the two—especially following social media drama involving their mothers—Johnson's statements have noconfirmed that a personal rift occurred.

Still, her remarks suggest there is no animosity—just the natural evolution of two people going in different directions.
