As NFL teams prepare for the 2024 season, preseason games are offering valuable insights into player performances and team dynamics. While preseason results don't determine the fate of a season, they provide a platform for players to showcase their skills and secure starting positions.

One of the most intriguing story lines is the Denver Broncos' quarterback competition. After releasing nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson, the Broncos are exploring new options under center. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix, selected 12th overall in this year's draft, has been making a strong case to lead the team. In a dominant 27-2 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Nix impressed with his poise and efficiency. He completed eight of nine passes for 80 yards, boasting a quarterback rating of 140.7. His performance was highlighted by a 90-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Tim Patrick. Head coach Sean Payton praised Nix for his composure, though he stopped short of naming him the starter, indicating that the competition is still open.

The Broncos' defense also stood out, stifling the Packers' offense and preventing them from scoring a touchdown. While Green Bay rested its starters, Denver's defense forced multiple turnovers and held firm, allowing only a safety on the night.

In San Francisco, backup quarterback Josh Dobbs also made waves in the 49ers' 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Filling in after starter Brock Purdy, Dobbs showed his versatility, completing 12 of 21 passes for 133 yards and rushing for 25 yards, including a one-yard touchdown. His connection with rookie receiver Jacob Cowing on a 38-yard pass was one of the highlights of the game. Dobbs, nicknamed "the Passtronaut" for his background in aerospace engineering, is looking to solidify his role in the team after an inconsistent 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings.

As teams continue to fine-tune their rosters, these preseason performances offer a glimpse of what’s to come. Whether it's a rookie like Bo Nix making his mark or a seasoned player like Josh Dobbs finding his stride, the preseason is proving to be a crucial stage for players to stake their claim ahead of Week 1.
