Prominent Texas attorney Tony Buzbee is at the center of a serious legal controversy following allegations that he transmitted a sexually transmitted disease (STD) to a woman in 2018 and exhibited violent behavior.
A lawsuit filed anonymously in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday claims that Buzbee coerced the woman into silence after the incident and later acted violently when she interacted with another man. Known for his high-profile cases and assertive courtroom tactics, Buzbee now faces intense scrutiny over these disturbing accusations.
The lawsuit states that Tony Buzbee and the woman, referred to as “Jane Doe,” first connected online in 2018. Buzbee allegedly invited her to Houston for a dinner date and a performance, later persuading her to stay at a luxury hotel. It was there that they engaged in sexual activity. The suit accuses Buzbee of failing to disclose that he was infected with a sexually transmitted disease.
Following the encounter, the woman reportedly began experiencing discomfort and sought medical attention, where she was diagnosed with an STD she alleges she contracted from Buzbee. When she informed him, Buzbee is said to have apologized and appeared aware of his condition. The lawsuit further claims that he urged her not to reveal the diagnosis and attempted to compensate her by offering free legal services.
The woman's allegations go beyond the initial sexual encounter, accusing Tony Buzbee of physical violence. According to the lawsuit, Buzbee became aggressively possessive during a confrontation at a New York City bar after seeing her speaking with another man. He allegedly smashed a glass against her face, resulting In two broken teeth. Despite this assault, the woman claims she continued her relationship with Buzbee, citing feelings of manipulation and shame. She also alleges that Buzbee was the only sexual partner she did not feel compelled to inform about her STD diagnosis.
Tony Buzbee, renowned for his high-profile legal cases, has categorically denied the allegations, labeling them as “frivolous, laughable, and ridiculous.” He insists the lawsuit is part of a coordinated conspiracy to tarnish his reputation and claims it will be dismissed, as previous cases have been. Buzbee has also accused Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, of leading a smear campaign against him. He alleges that Roc Nation has been recruiting former clients to file lawsuits against him in an effort to undermine his career.
“This latest case, like the others, is frivolous, laughable, and ridiculous and will be dismissed along like the others. It now seems that every other day there is another false claim filed, all of which are being ginned up by individuals working on behalf of or in concert with Roc Nation,” Buzbee said in a statement.
