The Attorney for Cassie Ventura Reacts to Diddy's Apology Video.Regarding ex-Sean "Diddy" Combs' contrite reaction to 2016 security footage that purportedly shows him abusing the singer, Cassie's attorney is making a statement.
The rap mogul, who did not name the artist, apologized profusely in an Instagram video posted on May 19, referencing the "darkest times" in his life and calling his actions "inexcusable."
Cassie's lawyer, Meredith Firetog, told CNN later that day that "Combs' most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt."
"No one will be swayed by his disingenuous words," the attorney continued.
E! News has not received a response from Cassie and Combs' lawyers regarding a surveillance video posted by CNN on May 17. The video shows Combs grabbing, shoving, dragging, and kicking Cassie in a hallway in a Los Angeles hotel in March 2016, two years before their breakup. Combs, who has not independently verified the footage, has taken full responsibility for his actions in the video, stating that he was fucked up and hit rock bottom, but he takes full responsibility for his actions.
The 54-year-old man, who was disgusted by the leaked video, has sought professional help and rehab. He apologized for his actions and expressed his commitment to becoming a better man. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office stated that if the conduct depicted in the video occurred in 2016, they would be unable to charge it, as it would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.
The assault depicted in the surveillance footage corresponds with the details of an alleged March 2016 incident that Cassie, who was formerly known as Cassie Ventura and is currently also going by her married name, Casandra Fine, detailed in a lawsuit she filed against Combs in November 2023, which was settled the same day. The lawsuit concerned sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and battery. The producer's attorney said in a statement to E! News at the time that "Mr. Combs' decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims."
Since last fall, Combs has been the target of five additional civil complaints brought in New York, which charge him with sexual assault, trafficking in persons, and other offenses. He has refuted each and every accusation.
In addition, a federal investigation into the Grammy winner is still ongoing as a result of raids on his Florida and California estates in March. At the time, NBC News was informed by a source with knowledge of the investigation that the federal authorities had already conducted three interviews with individuals regarding charges of sexual assault, sex trafficking, soliciting, and distributing illegal drugs and weapons, and the investigation was launched in the midst of a flurry of lawsuits brought against the individual.
