In an interview with Buzz,  the south African “Water" hit maker Tyla opened up about her music journey. “My parents did not want me to do music. They wanted me to go to school since I was brilliant. “ Tyla admitted that in most occasions she was forced to sneak out after school on every weekend to go and do music.

Tyla's parents at most times were angry at her. It was until Tyla dropped her first song that went viral and people loved the jam that her parents' hearts softened.

This was after Tyla Laura Seethal commonly referred to as Tyla signed with Epic Records in 2021. This followed after her single debut “Getting Late" featuring Kooldrink.

“My parents were very angry with me and wanted me to do Mining Engineering. When I dropped my first single and many people listened, the let me do music more often.” Tyla added.

Tyla stated that when she won her first Grammy, her parents now allowed her to do whatever she wished. Tyla won her first Inaugural Golden Gramophone for Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammy awards.

Tyla took her parents to America for the first time and they saw her win the award. “ It was one of the happiest days of my life and we partied and celebrated it like 100 times..” Tyla added.

“ I grew up wanting the attention. Every single competition, every single talent show at school, I was signing to perform. I’ve always had this feeling. Even when i was small I was telling people that I was going to be a singer when am older.” Tyla a stated in one of her interviews.

It is clear how Amapiano artists are making huge milestones in international stage. Through dedication, Tyla has been able to boost her following. With over 1.5 million followers on Tiktok alone. This is sensational.

Tyla is still in the early stages of her career but has also had huge achievements. With a soundtrack featured on Blood and Water the South African series. She had also been working hand in hand with DJ  Maphorisa on To Last remix. Tyla has also been able to perform with scorpion kings on their recent London tour.  This has enabled her to rise to more fame.

“ I am shocked to have fans in some places I can’t even pronounce! I always asks “how do you know me?” Especially on Tiktok , people comment where they are from and its actually crazy.” Tyla stated in one of her interviews.
