In a recent interview, Serena Williams shared a charming detail about her daughter Olympia’s current interests. Unlike many children who are captivated by the magical world of Disney princesses, Olympia has a different kind of idol—pop superstar Taylor Swift. This revelation came during Williams’ appearance at the INBOUND conference on September 19, 2024.
“My daughter just turned 7. She’s not into princesses, she’s into Taylor Swift,” Williams said with a smile. She even added, “I am, too,” highlighting the shared enthusiasm between mother and daughter.
Williams also touched on the challenges of parenting in the digital age. “It’s a scary world. It’s a digital world for kids right now. I’m always on with my daughter, but we don’t allow her on certain platforms,” she explained. She emphasized the importance of monitoring her children’s online activities to protect them from potential dangers. “It’s so interesting that with everything available online and the access that kids have—in a second, you never know what can come to them,” she added.
Williams is committed to letting her children enjoy their childhood. “I feel like we might try to take it slow with her and go a little bit slower with electronics, and just let her be a kid for as long as you can,” she said.
Williams also shared a humorous moment from her parenting journey, highlighting the everyday struggles that even a world-class athlete faces. “Please give it to me, thank you very much!” she joked when asked for parenting advice. “I don’t have any [advice]. Wake up, that’s all I do. I could barely wake up today!”
In addition to discussing her daughter’s fandom, Williams reflected on the broader concept of what it means to be a champion. “You don’t have to be winning Wimbledon or a gold medal to be a champion. Being a champion is really just being there for your kids. I think that’s a huge champion,” she said.
