In a recent interview, Nick Cannon shared insights into how his ex-wife Mariah Carey is coping with the devastating loss of her mother PatriciamHickey and sister Alison Carey, who tragically passed away on the same day in August 2024.
Cannon, 43, who was married to Carey from 2008 to 2016, told Page Six that the Grammy-winning singer is "doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances." He emphasized the importance of family support during this difficult time, stating, "As a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love."
The "Masked Singer" host revealed that Carey, 55, has been finding solace in spending time with their 13-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan. "She's really having a great time with the kids," Cannon shared. "That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it's outstanding to see them supporting their mom the way they do."
Carey confirmed the heartbreaking news on August 27, 2024, stating that her mother and sister had passed away the previous weekend. Patricia Hickey was 87, while Alison Carey was 63. The singer expressed gratitude for being able to spend time with her mother in her final days.
Following the tragedy, Carey took a brief hiatus from work but recently announced her return to performing. On September 8, she posted on Instagram: "It's been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone's love and support so much and I can't wait to see my fans in China & Brazil."
The loss comes after years of complicated relationships within the family. In her 2020 memoir "The Meaning of Mariah," Carey candidly discussed her tumultuous history with both her mother and sister, describing her journey with her mother as "full of contradictions and competing realities."
As Carey navigates this challenging period, her ex-husband's words highlight the ongoing support she's receiving from loved ones. The singer's resilience is evident as she balances her grief with her commitment to her children and her career, demonstrating her ability to persevere through even the most difficult circumstances.
