The Bachelorette season with Jenn Tran ended happily, for the time being.
After bidding farewell to contestant Devin Strader during the September 3 finale, the physician assistant student announced her engagement to Marcus Shoberg, the runner-up.
But as soon as they filmed the finale earlier this year, Jenn and Devin's relationship status changed, as Bachelor Nation soon found out. The two have officially split up, in fact.
In the series finale, Jenn declared, I'm not going to let Devin propose to me today, despite Devin's admission that he couldn't wait to get down on a knee for her. Devin will be my proposal target. All I want to do is pull out a big bow.
But before fans could see the proposal, Jenn revealed the reality of their relationship on After the Final Rose, sobbing.
It has been an extremely difficult few months. We were very happy when we left Hawaii, engaged.It was the most joyous day of my existence, she remarked. Once we departed Hawaii, everything changed drastically. He had told me that he wanted to move somewhere, but it felt like he was backing away.
The efforts were inconsistent, Jenn went on. He was texting less and calling less. I didn't understand.
She sobbed as she explained that he eventually called to end their engagement.
He had basically said that he didn't love me anymore and didn't feel the same way and felt like something had been off, she said. He regretted getting engaged, and I didn't know.
Devin said on After the Final Rose, I let you down. Other than that, there's nothing more I can say. However, my feelings for you were genuine.
Jenn questioned his motives and accused him of going out to clubs after they broke up and following other women on Instagram.
I think this is a little different than the conversation I was hoping to have with you, he said. Am I not allowed to live? The stunning turn was first hinted at earlier this summer by the season 21 lead.
It's undoubtedly a shocking conclusion, she said in June to Francesca Amiker of E! News. I found it shocking as well.
You know, it's not how I saw the journey ending when I first started it, Jenn admitted. Therefore, I can't wait for everyone to watch that again.
