MTV has tapped rap sensation Megan Thee Stallion to host the 2024 Video Music Awards on September 11. This marks the first time the "Hot Girl Summer" artist will helm a major awards show, building on her previous hosting stints on "Saturday Night Live" and "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."
The announcement comes on the heels of Megan's successful third album release, "Megan," which dropped in June under her independent label Hot Girl Productions. Her latest single "Mamushi" has already amassed over 150 million streams, following the chart-topping success of "Hiss" earlier this year.
Megan enters the VMAs with five nominations, the most for any hip-hop artist this year. Her nods include best collaboration for "Wanna Be" with GloRilla, as well as best hip-hop, visual effects, direction, and art direction for "Boa."
The artist's VMAs legacy dates back to 2019 when she clinched her first win for best power anthem with "Hot Girl Summer." Now, she'll take center stage at New York's UBS Arena, following in the footsteps of previous host Nicki Minaj.
This year's ceremony boasts an impressive lineup of performers, including Katy Perry, who will receive the prestigious Video Vanguard Award. Other acts set to take the stage include Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Camila Cabello, Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, and LISA of Blackpink.
Leading the nominations is Taylor Swift with 10 nods, followed closely by Post Malone with nine. Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Eminem tie with six nominations each.
Megan's hosting gig caps off a whirlwind year for the rapper. She recently wrapped her first headlining tour, the Hot Girl Summer Tour, which included a memorable stop at Madison Square Garden. The tour's final show at London's O2 Arena featured a surprise appearance by Yuki Chiba for their first live performance of "Mamushi."
Beyond music, Megan has been making waves in the political sphere. She recently performed at a rally for presidential candidate Kamala Harris, expressing her support for potentially electing the first Black female president.
As the VMAs approach, all eyes will be on Megan Thee Stallion as she brings her signature energy and charisma to one of music's biggest nights. With her track record of electrifying performances and chart-topping hits, viewers can expect an unforgettable show when the VMAs air live on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
