During the Rolling Loud Europe Festival in Austria on July 7, American rapper Ice Spice faced a negative crowd reaction when her collaboration with Taylor Swift, "Karma," began playing. Concert-goers showed thumbs-down gestures and booed, but Ice Spice responded with grace, blowing kisses back at the audience. This reaction quickly went viral, earning her praise online. One fan commented, "She kinda ate it with the blowing kiss tho." Another noted, "People need to chill with the booing though."
The remix of "Karma," featuring Ice Spice, was released last year in May as part of Taylor Swift's Midnights (Til Dawn Edition). Swift discussed the collaboration, stating, "Collaborating with Ice Spice on 'Karma' was one of the most natural things. She reached out through her team, just kind of saying, 'Hey, Ice has been a big fan of Taylor's since she was a little kid, would love to collaborate if that was ever something that came about.'" Swift added, "I had been listening to her nonstop like getting ready for my tour, I was just listening to Ice Spice constantly. So I immediately got her number and said, 'Hey, would you wanna do your version of 'Karma'? Do you relate to this?' She jumped in headfirst."
The partnership was controversial for some due to Taylor's relationship with Matty Healy from The 1975, who had previously made offensive remarks about Ice Spice. Despite this, Ice Spice and Swift maintained a close friendship, attending significant events together, such as the 2023 MTV VMAs and the 2024 Super Bowl. Swift even offered Ice Spice advice, telling her, "No matter what, just keep making music and everything's going to be fine."
Ice Spice hinted at a potential future collaboration, stating, "I think she did me the favor. But I don't know. Let's see, let's see, let's see." Their professional bond was further solidified when Ice Spice joined Taylor on stage during her record-breaking Eras Tour in New Jersey in May 2023.
