The BET Awards aired live from Los Angeles and Taraji P. Henson opened the show. With performances from Lauryn Hill, Will Smith, Usher Tribute Medley, Tyler among many other great performances, the night was set to be an amazing one for the attendees, however, it became a nightmare for tiktoker and food influencer Keith Lee. This is after Taraji confused him with YouTuber Jordan Howlett and flirted with him in front of his wife Ronnie Lee.
Keith Lee took to tiktok to clarify why he posted a video dropping the rose Taraji P. Henson gave him. He claims that he has no issue with Henson, on the contrary, he claims that she did an amazing job. He went ahead to say that the production was rushed and it did not feel intentional.
Taraji P Henson took to Instagram to comment on the whole situation. “Life really in too short for this behavior. He wasn't in his seat. They give celebrity assigned seats. I rehearsed all day to go hit my mark and that young man wasn't in his seat so he missed his moment! His ego is hurt. He will be fine. I cleaned it up at the end of the show. No Love Lost here # God bless.”
Fans on social media had mixed reactions, concerning Henson's response, some agreeing with her while others condemned her. “You couldn't have rehearsed anything to be flirting with a married man, let alone in front of his wife,” once wrote on Instagram. “t Tbh this n**** is famous for eating food and rating it, that is no black excellence. Why tf should he be acknowledged at the BET awards,” one fan said, jumping to Taraji's defense.
