Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has recently shared more information about the mysterious illness that hospitalized him for several weeks in 2023. Speaking to a group of fans outside a Phoenix cafe, Foxx recounted the events leading up to his medical emergency.
"On April 11 last year, I had a bad headache and asked for an Advil," Foxx explained. "Then I was gone for 20 days. I don't remember anything." The 56-year-old actor snapped his fingers to emphasize how suddenly the situation unfolded.
Foxx revealed that his sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne Foxx took him to see doctors in Atlanta. The first physician administered a cortisone shot, which is commonly used to reduce inflammation and pain. A second doctor then indicated there was "something going on" in Foxx's head, though the actor declined to provide specifics on camera.
While Foxx has been gradually returning to public life and his entertainment career, he's been cautious about sharing details of his illness. At an awards luncheon in March, he promised to eventually tell the full story "in my way" through a stand-up comedy routine tentatively titled "What Had Happened Was."
The health scare sidelined Foxx for months, causing him to miss hosting duties on the game show "Beat Shazam." He has since resumed his role on the program. In December, Foxx made an emotional speech at an awards ceremony, revealing that he "couldn't actually walk" just six months prior.
Foxx has expressed profound gratitude for his recovery, stating, "I cherish every single minute now." He's also hinted at the severity of his condition, saying he "saw the tunnel" but not "the light."
As Foxx continues his comeback, fans eagerly await more details about his experience. The actor has promised to share his story through his trademark humor, ensuring that when he does fully open up, it will be on his own terms and in his distinctive style.
