Singer Kehlani has been vocal about the issues happening in Palestine, most times encouraging her peers in the music industry to speak out on the matter. The war has resulted to the death of more than 36,615 Palestines hence sparking International outcry. “You can't stop for a second and recognize that we can't continue doing what we do without people?” Kehlani said, urging her peers in the music industry to speak up.
CRASH, kehlani's fourth studio album, now available on all streaming platforms had no features from other artists. During her interview on The Breakfast Club morning show, Kehlani revealed that she lost numerous deals due to her support for Palestine amid the Gaza conflict. Charlemagne Tha God asked her about how the music industry reacted to her advocacy.
“ I've experienced a lot of loss. I've experienced a lot of things that were promised and set up for this roll out and album to happen that was supposed to be a lot of “firsts” yeah, magazines in these things… brand deals and opportunities that we're sad to lose but at the end of the day, I don't regret doing something that I go can go to sleep at night. I can go to sleep knowing that, like, what I learned to be as an artist, I'm aligned with.”
When talking about the fact that her album had no features, Kehlani said, “It also wasn't every single feature. There were people who didn't get it back in time or it wasn't aligned with the timing of their album. I didn't mean every artist but there were artists that I reached out to and someone on their team was like “we don't f*** with her” or they said this and another thing made it to me…”
Kehlani also stated that there are a lot more people involved on artists’ team than just the artist. This is after she said that some artists were to contribute to her album but they disappeared without explanation. Kehlani did not state who the artists were specifically but at times the teams contributes to such.
