Ming Luanli is Nicki Minaj's half sister and she has given an indepth interview of how it has been like being rapper Nicki Minaj’s sister. In her recent appearance on the “We in Miami” podcast, she opened up on topics like her music career, inspirations, dating and her connection with superstar sister, Nicki Minaj. She shares that they were “never close” despite sharing the same father. She also stated that being the rapper’s sister made people bully her.
“In elementary, middle school, high school, the moment people knew who l was, it was either like they would ask me about my sister, or ask me, like, just weird things, that’s gonna make me feel uncomfortable,” she recalled. “At that moment, l felt not only attacked, l felt vulnerable. I felt like l was by myself.”
According to Ming, she has never called her Nicki because it felt weird, instead, she refers to her as Onika. “We were never close, but we got a good bond. She was always, like, busy. She be busy and stuff like that,l be doing my sh*t too. But at the end of the day, l know that l still got love for her, she still got love for me and I’mma still be proud of her.”
The New York native has started pursuing music just like her sister, however, she admits that this has caused a lot of hate and comparison. She also claims that her peers question why Nicki Minaj does not help her. According to Ming, she believes that she will “never be at the same level” as the Starships rapper. Ming claims that she strives to impress her sister and that she does not hate her as portrayed. In her recent collaboration with Rakeem Love, Ming offers versatility in singing and rapper, just like her sister.
