On Sunday, June 23,  rapper Saweetie performed at the Vegandale Festival in Grant Park, Chicago. Her performance was cut short after a fight broke out in the crows. In the viral footage, Saweetie can be heard telling her DJ to stop the music. “ I know you all ain't doing what I think y’all doing. Is everybody safe?” she asked, shortly after, the attendees could be seen running from the venue.

“Hope everyone got  home safe tonight. That crowd  looked crazy,” Saweetie tweeted after the incident. Fans accused Saweetie of not being genuine with her remarks. “ It was a festival! Don't bring your ass back to Chicago you've done enough… it was babies out there getting trampled on for nothing,” the X user wrote. “Then you come back talking about ‘imma tell y'all what my type is’ we don't give a f*** at this point.”

In response to all the backlash she received, Saweetie took to X to reply to her fans. “The crowd did look crazy, which is why I hope everyone got home safe. Also, I could have (gone) home after the fight broke out  but I stayed, waited and after 2 Chains performed I went back on stage to finish my set because I care you clearly don't like me so why did use stay for the rest of it?”

Some social media users claim that Saweetie's reaction led to a stampede. “Be specific instead of running away from the stage and cause people to get hurt by the stampede you (Saweetie) caused!!” a fan reacted on X. Another user claimed that those in the venue assumed that it was a shooting incident rather than a fight. “There wasn't any shooting at Vegandale… there was a fight and people panicked because the fear that someone would pull a gun out.”

“This was a serious matter but y’all are too obsessed with creating this negative propaganda towards me,” Saweetie wrote, after the backlash intensified.
