Onezwa Mbola grew up in the coastal village of Willowvale and she claims that cooking makes her feel connected to her mother, grandmother and other deceased ancestors. She occasionally posts videos of herself making various meals and drinks from scratch. Many people compared her content to Smith's till recently when she alleged that Nara Smith steals her content and posts without giving her credit.
“For four months now, I have watched a very, very popular content creator use my ideas again and again, I'm not the first to do anything, they've continuously used my ideas to get views,” Mbola said in a now deleted video. “ Now that would be fine, except that in South Africa, we don't get paid for views and where she is they get paid for views, so she has been making money off stealing my content,” Mbola said. She was referring to an incident where she made boba tea, and days later, Nara did the same. This comes after Mbola made mozzarella cheese from scratch and days later, Smith did the same.
Nara took to Instagram to claim that she does not know Onezwa and neither does she follow her. This led fans to dig out a particular screenshot of Nara commenting on one of Onezwa's tiktok videos calling her “so inspirational.”
In the letter Naras Smith claims that Onezwa Mbola's accusations are false and have caused significant harm to her personal and professional reputation. “This email serves as a formal notice that if you do not retract your statements and stop making these deformatory claims immediately, I will have no choice but to pursue legal action against you for defamation of character,” the email reads. Mbola share a screenshot of the email on X and caption it without laughing emojis. She also deleted the videos of her accusing Nara Smith of stealing her content.
