Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert got married in 2016, however, in January 2023, Taylor filed for divorce but announced it on September of the same year. “We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children,” Taylor wrote on Instagram. The NBA champion and actress Teyana Taylor met in 2011 but they started dating around 2013 and Shumpert proposed during their first baby shower in Cleveland, Ohio.
“Years ago l told you l wanted a family and you gave me that. I bent my knee to you and you accepted my headache and trauma. You've pumped my brakes and fixes me up everytime l had a bump or a bruise,” he wrote on Instagram. “So yes, l could've gotten you a brand new car… but this car will symbolize a relationship that's been thru it all. The nostalgia of the Corvette you wanted is heard but l want you to dress this one up little by little like we've done in this 6 years and make sure this muf… a ride forever!” This was during their 6th anniversary and he gifted her a 1979 Corvette.
The court filings that were leaked to the public alleged that Shumpert was cruel toward Taylor and has been very narcissistic throughout their marriage. He was accused of being emotionally and mentally abusive as well as being very insecure. According to TMZ, Taylor sought for temporary and permanent primary physical custody, joint legal custody and child support.
According to New court documents, Shumpert wants the child support arrangements to be changed and wants his ex wife to chip in since she earns more than him. He revealed that Taylor makes $93,885 monthly before taxes while he earns $47,981. He claims that Taylor makes almost double his income. Shumpert requests to share medical bills with his estranged wife since he is willing to spend $8,000 monthly in child support, however he believes that it should be reevaluated due to the pay gap.
