Victor Wembanyama delivered a dominant performance as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the defending NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 to force a decisive Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals.
After a disappointing display in Game 5, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson had challenged Wembanyama to contribute more offensively. The 22-year-old responded impressively by producing one of his best performances of the postseason.
Wembanyama finished the game with 28 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots as San Antonio controlled the contest from the opening stages. The Spurs established an early advantage and never allowed the Thunder to recover, eventually leveling the series at 3-3.
The French star was so effective that he was able to leave the game with nearly eight minutes still remaining in the third quarter during a stretch in which the Spurs scored 20 unanswered points.
Following the victory, Johnson praised Wembanyama for showing leadership and responsibility after criticism surrounding his previous performance. He also highlighted the young center's passion and determination throughout the game.
San Antonio received strong support from the rest of the roster as well. Stephon Castle contributed 17 points and nine assists while committing just one turnover, and Dylan Harper added 18 points off the bench.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City's star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled to make the same impact he had in Game 5, where he scored 32 points. In Game 6, the two-time NBA MVP finished with just 15 points and four assists after converting only six of his 18 shot attempts.
It marked Gilgeous-Alexander's lowest scoring performance since the 2025 Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. His shooting numbers throughout the current series have also dropped significantly compared to earlier playoff rounds.
After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander admitted he was unsure why he has struggled offensively. He explained that many of the shots he attempted were ones he normally feels comfortable taking, but they simply were not falling.
The Thunder star also acknowledged that San Antonio played with greater energy and aggression throughout the matchup, saying the Spurs dictated the game from start to finish.
The series will now be decided in Game 7 in Oklahoma City on Saturday, with the winner advancing to face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
