Brandon Clarke, the Memphis Grizzlies forward known for his energy and athleticism on the court, has died at the age of 29, according to statements released by his sports agency and the team. Reports surrounding the circumstances of his death are still developing, with authorities investigating the case.

Clarke spent seven seasons in the NBA after being selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder before immediately being traded to Memphis. Over the course of his professional career, he became a key contributor for the Grizzlies, averaging 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists across 309 games. He earned NBA All-Rookie Team honors during his first season and quickly established himself as a fan favorite because of his hustle, defensive intensity, and team-first approach.

Born in Vancouver, Clarke played college basketball at San Jose State before transferring to Gonzaga, where he developed into one of the top players in the country. After sitting out a season due to transfer rules, he became a standout for the Bulldogs and helped lead the program on a deep NCAA Tournament run. During his time at Gonzaga, he averaged 16.9 points per game and received All-American recognition from multiple outlets.

In recent years, Clarke dealt with several injuries that limited his playing time, including knee and Achilles issues. This past season, he appeared in only two games after suffering a calf strain.

Last month, Clarke was also arrested in Arkansas on charges that included possession and trafficking of a controlled substance following a reported high-speed pursuit involving law enforcement. The case remained unresolved at the time of his death.

Following the news, Clarke’s agency, Priority Sports, released an emotional tribute describing him as “the gentlest soul” and someone who consistently supported friends, teammates, and family members. The Memphis Grizzlies also shared a statement expressing heartbreak over the loss and praising Clarke not only as an outstanding teammate but also as a valued member of the Memphis community.
