Oklahoma City Thunder delivered a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Lakers, handing them one of the largest defeats in franchise history while also raising concern over an injury to star player Luka Doncic.

The reigning NBA champions secured a convincing 139-96 win, powered by 28 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who continues to lead the team with consistent form. The result strengthened the Thunder’s position at the top of the league standings as they improved their record to 61-16.

The 43-point margin of defeat ranks among the heaviest losses the Lakers have ever suffered. In fact, they have only endured a larger defeat on six previous occasions. This particular result came just six points shy of their worst-ever loss, a 49-point defeat to the Dallas Mavericks in 2017.

The game marked a downturn for the Lakers, who entered the matchup having won four of their previous five games. Their momentum was further disrupted when Doncic left the court during the third quarter due to a left hamstring injury. The Slovenian guard appeared visibly emotional as he exited, raising immediate concerns about his availability moving forward.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick confirmed that Doncic is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury. Doncic had been in exceptional scoring form prior to the setback, having recorded at least 40 points in each of his last three games and in five of his previous seven outings.

The Lakers had recently been on a strong run, winning 13 of their last 14 games as they attempt to secure the third seed in the Western Conference ahead of the playoffs, which begin on April 18.

For the Thunder, Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 28 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists, while Isaiah Joe added 20 points off the bench. On the Lakers side, Austin Reaves led the scoring with 15 points despite dealing with back discomfort, and LeBron James added 13 points in 26 minutes of play.

The Thunder’s total of 139 points marked the highest number of points conceded by the Lakers this season. The 43-point loss also stands as their most significant defeat since a 44-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in November 2023.
